"We knew community engagement mattered, but our attempts always fell short. Places People Change gave us the language and a practical path forward. Anyone doing authentic neighborhood work will find real value here."

— Samantha Shaak, PhD, Executive Director, Leonard Parker Pool Institute for Health

The team behind Places People Change brings hands-on experience in dozens of neighborhoods across the US —founders, executives, practitioners, public health leaders, and creatives who are your co-conspirators in place-based, people-centered change.

1

Ecosystems of Belonging

Coming June 2026

This White Paper was prepared for The Leonard Parker Pool Institute for Health in Allentown, PA. It explores the social science research on why place-based approaches to social impact must be people-centered. It develops the three dimensions of neighborhood-level belonging as well as a model for cultivating it. It also provides a case study from the Franklin Park neighborhood in Allentown.

2

Place-Based vs. Based-in-a-Place

Coming May 2026

This excerpt from a white paper developed for an emerging place-based partnership in Sugar Hill, GA. A strong primer on the meaning of place-based social impact, the foundational frameworks that shape it, and the thought leaders advancing the work.
